Wednesday 9 September
Bright and early, Wednesday morning, we were up at 6 o clock to get ready for a hike at Parnassus Farm. We left at 7 o clock for a rocky 5 km hike. We climbed to the top of the mountain and could see a beautiful panoramic view of Magaliesberg and our camp site below. After breakfast we created a mascot for our group and included our values. We then completed our leadership booklets. Afterwards we had to build a nest using natural materials to protect a real egg. Our facilitators dropped the nest from the balcony Unfortunately, the only group whose egg survived was disqualified for not using all natural materials. We then played games until lunchtime. After lunch we split into two main groups while one group played kick ball, the other group completed a gruelling obstacle course. After cleaning off all the mud we had a shower and then had tuck and free time. That evening after supper we had to use random materials to design a unique fashion item to be worn by our models and judged. The main designers and models got to walk down the runway creating lots of hysteria. We enjoyed a huge bonfire, singing camp songs and making echoes since this was our last night at camp. We enjoyed a party feast in our dorms and after cleaning up headed for a good night’s sleep.

Thursday 10 September
The final day of camp arrived, and the morning was spent packing our bags. Before breakfast, there was a competition to decide the “Rock, Paper, Scissors” champion in the grade. After our final delicious breakfast, we packed the bus and headed for Maropeng.
At Maropeng, the tour guide took us up a long hill to the Cradle of humankind. We learnt about the skull of Ms Ples and then went to a museum where we learnt about the earliest humans. We then went on an exciting underground boat ride where we experienced the elements of earth, wind and fire. Finally, there was an opportunity for us to explore the impact of humans on earth.
We were tired and happy when we arrived home on Thursday afternoon.
