Alumnae Connect Botswana: Bridging Generations, Celebrating Sisterhood
The spirit of St Mary’s travelled across borders this month as alumnae gathered in Botswana for a memorable Alumnae Connect evening — a celebration of shared history, enduring friendships, and the timeless bonds of sisterhood.
Hosted at Park27, the venue was soon filled with laughter, warm embraces, and the unmistakable energy of women reconnecting not just with one another, but with the school that helped shape them. Alumnae representing the Matric Classes from 2003 through to 2023 came together in a beautiful display of cross-generational connection — a living testament to the strength and continuity of the St Mary’s community.
What made the evening especially meaningful was the way stories flowed so effortlessly across the decades. Whether reflecting on boarding life, favourite teachers, or unforgettable traditions, it became clear that while years may separate each matric class, the essence of St Mary’s remains constant.
Of course, no St Mary’s gathering would be complete without revisiting some of the legends that define our shared folklore. There was much amusement as alumnae compared their own encounters and interpretations of Mabel the ghost, reminisced about Fanta the art cat, and fondly recalled the much-anticipated St Alban’s Exchange Days. These stories, passed down from one cohort to the next, continue to knit our generations together in laughter and nostalgia.
The event was proudly hosted in collaboration with our brother school, St Alban’s College, strengthening the partnership that has enriched both communities over the years. It was particularly special to have Nobuhle Mtshali, Marketing Manager of St Alban’s College and a proud St Mary’s DSG alumna (Class of 2008), present at the event. Her presence beautifully symbolised the enduring connections between our two schools and the leadership journeys that begin at St Mary’s.
More than a social gathering, Alumnae Connect Botswana served as a powerful reminder that St Mary’s is not simply a place we attend for a season — it is a lifelong community. From the Class of 2003 to the Class of 2023, each alumna carries forward the same spirit of resilience, warmth, and sisterhood that defines our school.
As conversations lingered and hugs were exchanged well into the evening, one thing was certain: no matter the decade, no matter the distance, once a St Mary’s girl — always a St Mary’s girl.
