Grade 8 and 12 Mother Daughter Lunch

- Mrs Mickaele Jenkins

Shortly after midterm our Grade 8 and Grade 12 girls gathered with their mothers and significant female role models for a truly special Mother Daughter Lunch. What began as a simple shared meal became a beautiful moment of connection, reflection and sisterhood.

Our Grade 8 and Grade 12 sisters sat together at each table creating space for honest conversation. The Matric girls shared their experiences of high school, the lessons they have learnt and the milestones that lie ahead. They spoke about friendships, growth, challenges and the pride that comes with reaching the final chapter of their school journey. In turn our Grade 8 girls bravely expressed their feelings of excitement, nervousness and at times being overwhelmed. There was comfort in knowing that every Grade 12 girl once sat where they now sit.

A highlight of the afternoon was our keynote address by Mrs Dorah Koikanyang, proud mother to Ontiretse, one of our Deputy Head Girls. Mrs Koikanyang is a mother of four with her youngest daughter now making her way through St Marys, having started in Grade 0. Her words were heartfelt and sincere. She reminded us how important it is for mothers to remain present in their daughters lives throughout their school careers. She spoke with deep love for the school and sincere appreciation for the staff who walk this journey alongside families. Her gratitude and warmth made the occasion even more meaningful.

As our Matric girls begin the final stretch of their school years and our Grade 8 girls take their first steps into high school this lunch was a reminder of the strength of our community. At St Marys sisterhood is not simply spoken about. It is lived around tables in shared stories in encouragement and in prayer.

We look forward to the continued network of support that defines this great school. Sometimes it begins with something as simple as a lunch and grows into something that lasts a lifetime.
