Welcome back to Mrs Morgan
Luciel Morgan rejoins St Mary’s DSG after completing her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instructional Design at Stellenbosch University during her sabbatical. Her research, titled 'Evaluating gender representation in Business Studies curriculum and pedagogy: a case study of Independent schools in Gauteng, examined how theoretical frameworks such as feminist post-structuralism and critical pedagogy can inform policy and teaching practices to encourage more equitable learning environments for young women. Her work examined how schools, which shape student identities and professional aspirations, can better prepare girls to take on leadership roles in fields where women remain underrepresented.
Mrs Morgan previously served as Deputy Head of Girls’ Character and Wellness at St Mary’s DSG until 2024. Before that, she was a Mathematics and Business Studies teacher and held leadership positions, including Head of Department of Business Studies, Dean of Instruction and Learning, and Acting Head of School. She has a gentle, empathetic leadership style and is intent on creating a safe, secure environment where girls can excel academically and emotionally.
Mrs Morgan’s academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Economics, a BCom Honours in Economics, and a Master of Science in Property Economics from the University of the Witwatersrand. She transitioned into education through a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from UNISA and also holds early childhood development certification in early learning approaches such as Montessori and the Reggio Emilia Approaches, and will now be pursuing her PhD in curriculum and instructional design.
Mrs Morgan looks forward to returning to St Mary's DSG, not only as Deputy Head of Academics but also as a teacher with the opportunity and privilege to teach and engage with the exceptional young women at St Mary's DSG.
