Lent Knitting Drive

- Mrs Nelisiwe Zwane

On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, the St Mary’s DSG Pretoria community came together in a beautiful display of synergy, sisterhood, and service as both the Senior and Junior Schools united to share the skills of knitting and crocheting. Girls who were experienced in these crafts guided and encouraged those who were learning for the very first time, creating an atmosphere of patience, joy, and collaboration.

This meaningful initiative forms part of the rich Anglican tradition of Lent at St Mary’s DSG Pretoria, a season rooted in reflection, compassion, humility, and service to others. Through the simple yet powerful act of creating handmade items, our girls were reminded of the importance of giving of themselves and using their talents to uplift those in need.

The morning was filled with laughter, learning, and connection as girls across grades worked side by side, strengthening the spirit of community that lies at the heart of St Mary’s. The knitting and crocheting initiative not only taught valuable practical skills but also reflected the values of kindness, empathy, and servant leadership that our school continues to nurture.

We are proud of the girls for embracing this special Lent tradition with open hearts and willing hands.
