Senior School Sport

- Mrs Hanlie Podd

The second term at St Mary’s DSG has been a season filled with energy, resilience, and achievement. Our senior school sport staff have worked tirelessly to guide teams through a demanding league schedule, and the results speak for themselves.

Basketball

With 24 games played, our basketball teams secured 19 wins and only 5 losses. The highlight of the season has been the strong improvement across all teams, with playoff qualification now firmly in sight.

Netball

Netball has been a standout this term, with 50 games played and an impressive 40 wins. Two of our players have been selected for the Gauteng School Squads – a remarkable achievement that reflects the depth of talent at St Mary’s DSG. Looking ahead, the focus will be on building consistency and refining communication for future seasons.

Hockey

Our hockey teams played 23 matches, achieving 14 wins, 4 losses, and 5 draws. A major highlight is the selection of 13 players to represent Northern Gauteng at the IPT, with provincial teams currently being finalized. This achievement underscores the strength and commitment of our hockey program.

Squash

Squash has delivered consistent results across the board. While injuries to top players have posed challenges, the outlook remains positive, with recovery and depth-building set to sustain momentum in the months ahead.

Provincial Representation

We are incredibly proud of all our players who will represent St Mary’s DSG at provincial level in the upcoming IPTs. Their dedication and hard work continue to inspire the entire sporting community.

This term’s successes would not have been possible without the continued support of our facility staff, administrative staff, finance staff, and our dedicated parents. We extend heartfelt thanks to the Parent Association for their assistance in completing the long-awaited hockey scoreboard and for their promise of continued support as we strive to improve sport at St Mary’s DSG.
