Welcome to Term 3

Dear Parents,

As the sun rises on a new term, we welcome it with hearts full of gratitude and excitement. I hope you and your daughters enjoyed a restful August holiday. Term 3 at St Mary’s always feels like a season of growth and renewal, where possibilities blossom as beautifully as the gardens around our school.

August, Women’s Month, is always a special time for us. This year’s theme, “Building Resilient Economies for All,” may sound like something for boardrooms, but it truly begins here, in the lives of our girls. Every time they tackle a challenging Maths problem, run onto the sports field with courage, or step onto the stage with creativity, they are building resilience, grit and confidence. Each achievement is laying the foundation for women who will one day strengthen economies, uplift communities and inspire change. August is also always a fiesta of sport! We cheer for female role models who continue to raise the South African flag across the different sporting codes reminding our girls that passion, perseverance and determination open doors to endless possibilities.

September brings even more to celebrate as St Mary’s DSG’s marks its 146th birthday, a milestone that reminds us that each girl here is part of a story stretching back generations, one that continues to grow with every new member of our school family. Spring is in full bloom, with warm days, colourful gardens and new life all around. It is a perfect reflection of Term 3 as a time for fresh ideas, renewed energy and creativity taking root. As Heritage Month arrives, we celebrate the beauty and strength of our country and its incredible cultural diversity. South African arts festivals, alongside our own lively school ‘Fiesta’, remind us that heritage lives not just in history, but in creativity, storytelling and the ways we express our identity.

When the term resumes, our Grade 4–7 girls and teachers will embark on their school camps, stepping into the outdoors, embracing new challenges and building relationships. We wish them lots of fun, learning and safe travels.

I close with this inspirational quote from Christian D. Larson:
“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.”

God bless.
