PIT Productions Brings Afrikaans Literature to Life
On 3 June, our Grade 11 and 12 Afrikaans First Additional Language learners had the exciting opportunity to attend a performance by PIT Productions, a theatre company renowned for bringing prescribed Afrikaans literature to life.
The production focused on the learners’ prescribed novel, Tuimeltrein, as well as a selection of their prescribed poems. Through a combination of dramatic performances, humour, and audience participation, the actors transformed the texts from pages in a book into engaging, memorable experiences.
One of the highlights of the visit was the highly interactive nature of the production. Learners were encouraged to participate, answer questions, and engage directly with the performers. This interactive approach helped deepen their understanding of the themes, characters, and messages found in both the novel and the poetry.
The performance also provided valuable revision and insight, allowing learners to view their prescribed works from new perspectives. Complex ideas became easier to understand, while important literary concepts were reinforced in an enjoyable and accessible way.
The response from learners was overwhelmingly positive. Many commented on how much they enjoyed the production and how it helped them gain a clearer understanding of their prescribed texts. The lively atmosphere, talented performers, and creative presentation ensured that the experience was both educational and entertaining.
