Mandela Day: ASH Charity Long Walk to Health Freedom

- Mrs Hildegard Joseph

St Mary's DSG was honoured to support the inaugural ASH (African Synergy Health) Long Walk to Health Freedom on Madiba Day. While this was the charity's first walk of its kind, our partnership with ASH, led by DSG alumna Dr Viola Morolo, has developed over several years. The initiative raises awareness and support for individuals in need of essential medical procedures, while bringing communities together in a spirit of service and compassion.

Our Invitational Choir contributed beautifully to the opening ceremony, providing uplifting music that helped set the tone for a meaningful morning. We were equally proud of our Senior School volunteers, who generously gave of their time as marshals and assisted at the various reflection stations along the route.

Through their enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to serve, our girls embodied the spirit of Madiba Day and represented St Mary's DSG with grace and pride. Their involvement not only contributed to the success of the event but also reflected the values of community engagement, empathy, and social responsibility that are at the heart of a St Mary's education.

We extend our sincere thanks to all the students, staff, and families who supported this inspiring initiative and helped make the inaugural walk such a success.
