Heritage Day and Grandparents’ Day at St Mary’s DSG
We were delighted to celebrate Heritage Day alongside our Grandparents’ Day on Friday, 26 September. The excitement was palpable as our grandparents gathered for a special programme that began with two tree-planting ceremonies, held as part of the national tree-planting campaign proposed by President Cyril Ramaphosa; a call to plant a million trees over the next five years. The ceremonies were hosted by Mrs Zwane, who coordinated our school’s participation in this meaningful initiative.
Out on the field, our heritage programme unfolded with a multilingual, interactive story about Naledi, who used colours to discover her heritage and find her way back home. The collective calls of different languages from our girls and their grandparents filled the air as they joyfully echoed key phrases from the story. The programme also featured a heartfelt Peace Song, beautifully led by our talented St Mary’s Joyful Voices.
The afternoon concluded with a lovely tea on the main lawn, where our girls also had the opportunity to proudly guide their grandparents through the Diocesan Hall to admire the stunning artwork on display as part of the #ArtBeat Art Exhibition. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all our grandparents for sharing this special day with us and for the love, wisdom, and joy they bring to our St Mary’s community.
