Girl Power Shines at Comic Con Africa 2025

- Mr Karabo Segolela

St Mary’s DSG proudly showcased the strength of girl power at Comic Con Africa 2025, competing in three thrilling Esports tournaments that highlighted skill, teamwork, and determination.

The action kicked off with our Junior School gamers (Pheladi Mamakoko, Lena Figueiredo and Sango Ngwata), who proudly represented St Mary’s DSG in the Minecraft Champions (Open Day Tournament). Their creativity and problem-solving shone through as they battled it out in a parkour world where strategy and imagination go hand in hand.

On the final day of Comic Con Africa, it was the turn of our Senior School Esports girls (Claire Kabwe, Shekinah Kunda, Lehlabile Phalane, Olumurewa Modupe, Rhandzu Sithole, Neve Riley, Inathi Sikweyiya and Onalerona Mogasho), who stepped into the spotlight in two highly competitive tournaments:

Fortnite Survivors Tournament, where their quick thinking and teamwork pushed them through fierce survival challenges, and Rocket Boost Cup, a high-octane contest demanding speed, precision and coordination.

The tournaments were packed with intensity, excitement and plenty of unforgettable moments, both on and off the screen. Beyond the competition, the experience brought the girls together in celebration of gaming, innovation, and representation in the Esports arena.

A special thank you goes to RGB gaming for hosting such a phenomenal tournament, as well as to the event sponsors Hisense, Eduvos and Evetech for making it all possible.

St Mary’s DSG continues to pave the way for young women in Esports, proving that passion, talent, and teamwork know no boundaries.
