World Robotics Olympiad Provincial Rounds

On 1 August, three of our Grade 8 students Leago Sikwane, Nhlonipho Nkwashu and Kwanele Sibisi participated in the World Robotics Olympiad (WRO) Provincial Round, where this year's inspiring theme was "Robots Meet Culture."

The competition brought together talented students from schools across Gauteng, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their coding, problem-solving, creativity, and critical-thinking skills. Teams were challenged to design, build, and program robots capable of completing a series of mission tasks both accurately and efficiently. The highest-performing teams would earn the opportunity to advance to the next stage of the competition.

Preparing for the Olympiad was no easy task, as the learners had to balance the demands of building and programming their robot while simultaneously preparing for and writing their July examinations. Despite the challenges and limited practice time, the girls demonstrated remarkable resilience, determination, and commitment throughout the process.

Although they did not secure a top-three placing, they represented the school with pride and performed admirably. They showed impressive adaptability, quickly refining their robot's design and programming to meet the requirements of the competition. Most importantly, the experience provided valuable opportunities to develop teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving, and coding skills that will undoubtedly benefit them in their future studies.

We are incredibly proud of their efforts, perseverance, and positive attitude. Their participation in this prestigious event was a significant achievement, and we look forward to seeing them build on this experience and reach even greater heights in future competitions.
